‘The Makers’ by Jennifer Causey

Exploring the work of Jennifer Causey and her online photo project, The Makers and the impact of the broader maker movement. People, empowered by the internet, are making things again.

Exploring the private workshops of Brooklyn’s established and emerging craftspeople and artisans, Jennifer Causey documents the spaces and faces of the maker movement in Brooklyn. Her online photo project,_ The Makers_, started in 2010, acts as a window into a few of the most interesting studios, kitchens, gardens and shops in the city--balancing beautifully detailed photography with charming and pretension-free interviews about life as a Brooklyn maker. “I have always been drawn to people who make things with their hands and I loved the idea of getting a closer look through documenting them. I think the makers enjoy showing what they do, as they are proud and are happy that others are interested and responding to their passions. Everyone loves seeing what goes into making things as well as seeing the creative work spaces.” See more makers and studios in her upcoming book, Brooklyn Makers, to be released October 2012.
